Mantal health is fundamental to youth development, yet it remains one of the most overiooked aspects
of youth programming in Ethlopia.AHYDA is changing that narrative through comprehensive
paychosocial support services.
Underatanding the Need
Young people in Ethlopia face numerous stressors: economic uncertainty,family pressures,academic
challenges,and limited opportunities. Without proper support, these stressors can lead to
anxiety.depression,and other mental heaith challenges that hindar personal development and success
Our Mental Health Programe
AHYDA provides multi-layerad mental heaith support designed to meet young peopie where they
are:Individual Counsating
Our trained counselors provide confidential, one-on-one support for young people dealing with personal
chailenges. We voe evidence-based approaches adapted to the Ethiopian cuttural context.
Peer Support Groups
We facilitate peer-led support groups where young people can share experiences,build connections,and learn
trom one another in a safe,supportive envvronment. These groups have proven particularly effective in
reducing isolation and building resilience.
Mental Health Awareness
We conduct workshops and campaigns to reduce atigma around mental health, educate communities about
mental weliness,and promota help-seekingbehaviors
Crisis Intervention
Our team provides immediate support for young people in crisis, with referral pathways to Bpecialized
services when needed.
Breaking the Stigma
One of our biggest challenges-and successes-has been sddresting the stigma surrounding mental health in
Ethiopian communities.Through community dialogues,family engagement, and youth advocacy,were creating
spaces where mental health can be discussed openly and without shame.

Over 800 young people have accessed counseling sarvices
25 active peer support groups across Bahir Dar
90% of participants report improved coping skilla
Signiflcant reduction in reported anxiety and depression symptoms
